About Us

Bar Association, Metropolitan Magistrates’ Courts, Calcutta is one of the oldest Bar Association in India. The Journey of Bar Association, Metropolitan Magistrates’ Courts, Calcutta started since last 110 years ago in the year 1915. The Rules of Bar Association were adopted in the Annual General Meeting of the Association held on 19th August, 1986. 

Bar Association City Sessions & Judicial Magistrates’ Court, Calcutta is government by the Executive Committee having duly elected members. The Executive Committee, consist of One President. Two vice presidents, One Secretary, Two Assistant Secretaries, Two Librarians and Nine Members.

 The present rules have replaced the old set of rules which used to guide the affairs of the Association for more than half a century. With the needs of the time-the old rules went through changes at different stages and it was ultimately felt that a comprehensive set of the rules should be brought out for functioning of the Bar Association and facilitating its administration.

Messrs. Jitendra Nath Bose, Ram Nath Roy, Baidyanath Prasad Chatterjee, Tarak Nath Banerjee, Abani Mohan Chaterjee, Siva Prosanna Sarkar and Chandi Prosad Moitra- all senior advocates of this Bar, took up the onerous task of compiling the present rules for which the Bar Association will always remember them with gratitude.

The Association also acknowledges the efforts put in by Mr. Jagadish Krishna Banerjee the then President of our bar in editing the said rules, making them ready for the press and checking the proof.

Now Bar Association City Sessions & Judicial Magistrates’ Court, Calcutta is duly registered.

That at present Bar Association City Sessions & Judicial Magistrates’ Court, Calcutta spread across eleven rooms – Room No. 1 to Room No. 11, and an office staff room.
